WHO WE ARE

We at Embertide believe that in order to have Kingdom impact we must radically change the way we see our faith. We believe that this new approach is actually a really old one. What if we wholeheartedly centred around Jesus. What if from the top to the bottom everything oriented around Jesus and was viewed through that lens...

As followers of Jesus we need to go deeper, we need to get back to our roots. So our mission as Embertide Church is to Be with Jesus, Become like Jesus and Do what Jesus did. It’s that simple it’s that uncluttered. We are oriented around those three things.

Fire

Throughout the history of faith we have seen symbols used to help communicate deep and meaningful truths in accessible ways. One of those powerful symbols is FIRE. God appears to Moses in a burning bush, Elijah calls down fire from the sky to show God’s power, Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego are tested through the fire and of course the Holy Spirit resting on the early disciples like a tongue of fire.

That Spirit fire has not been extinguished today, in fact it is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that the Church can be all that it was designed to be. We have all seen the powerful effects one little spark can produce in the right environment. Its reach can spread far beyond its original location and when the conditions are right it can move with alarming speed and power. We have seen the effects fire can have on a household, on a town or a region and even on an entire country. In a similar manner the Holy Spirit has given us all that we need to create a movement of God that spreads across Kings County, South Western NB, across this great nation of ours as well as around the world. Just like a glowing ember that sparks the fire, if we are willing to heed the Spirit and humbly submit to God’s desires over our own we could see a movement of God that has not been seen for a generation.

Water

A second and juxtaposed image is that of WATER. We in Atlantic Canada understand well the force and power of water. We only have to head to the beach to see the effects of the highest tides in the world as they cut and shape the rock and is one of the greatest natural wonders of the world. God’s Spirit also moves before us like a great tidal wave, moving and shaping whatever it comes up against. Like the surfers who travel the world looking for the best Maverick waves, we need simply be open and observant enough to see where God is creating the next big wave.

Of course water as well is such a rich image in our faith. Jesus when he speaks with the woman at the well offers himself as “living water”, in the book of Revelation Jesus offers to the thirsty the “spring of the water of life”. Water is what we use to demonstrate the cleansing work of Christ in our lives as we are raised from the baptism waters into the newness of life.

It’s the combination of these two images that capture perfectly the ethos and essence of what God designed the church to be and combined help form the name Embertide.
